Longevity John, owner of the Duncan Garage Showroom and the Not So General Store in (you guessed it) downtown Duncan, BC is a tireless promoter of musicians young and old, the well-known and those just starting out and hoping for the Big Break.
The Duncan Garage Showroom with its intimate and funky atmosphere is a favourite venue for performers and audience. And, every so often, Longevity John treats his faithful supporters to a night with an icon of Canadian music. On October 12th – that’s right, Thanksgiving Monday [...]

It’s almost Fall again and the Cowichan Folk Guild is gearing up for another great season of music and food. The first Friday of every month between September and June, at the Providence Farm Chapel in Duncan, British Columbia, the Cowichan Folk Guild offers a gourmet dinner and an evening of music for a mere pittance, usually in the $15.00-$20.00 range. Members’s price is discounted by $5.00 and at an annual individual fee of $30.00 or family membership of $40.00, you can’t go wrong. (The membership gets you a lower Islands Folk Festival price, too.)
The first concert, on [...]
The Timebenders – Cobble Hill Fall Fair 2009
The Timebenders played a fantastic concert Friday night at the Cobble Hill Fall Fairs 100th anniversary weekend. If you haven’t seen The Timebenders and love music from the 50’s through the 80’s then you owe it to yourself to check them out if they play anywhere near your local. They talk about over 20 amazing costume changes on their web site and while I can’t vouch for the exact number I have a selection below.
Ready for the test? Who are The Timebenders portraying in the following photographs? I don’t expect there will [...]
I just came back from a fabulous weekend at the Islands Folk Festival in the beautiful and extremely hot Cowichan Valley. What a festival; an amazing variety of music from around the world peppered with good food and catching up with many friends. Some 4,200 photos later I am back at my computer sorting images and deciding what to put on my web site. Needless to say, this will be a daunting task and will take some time. I’ll update this site as I put the galleries together. For anyone interested in how I manage to deal with this number [...]
What a fabulous start to the 25th annual Islands Folk Festival at Providence Farm. The weather has been stunning and a large and enthusiastic crowd arrived this evening for great music from Canada and abroad. I’m off again in a few minutes but here are some images from last night. Many of these folks are playing again during the next few days so there is still time to come out and enjoy the party!
My hats off to all the volunteers that make this possible and check out the lighting; a little difficult to shoot with but sure looks great!

Preparing the Chapel at Providence Farm, Duncan, BC
The Islands Folk Festival takes place at Providence Farm in the Cowichan Valley this coming weekend of July 24th-26th. 2009 celebrates the 25th anniversary of this wonderful music event and an army of volunteers are working behind the scenes to make sure that the folk festival is as good an event as possible. I spent some time down at Providence Farm helping the Cowichan Folk Guild with a photography project and took some time to photograph the pre-festival action. If you are going to [...]
Longevity John, Duncan Garage Showroom, Duncan, BC, Canada.
The Duncan Garage Showroom is located upstairs in the historic Duncan Garage in Duncan, Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island. The Duncan Garage offers a huge range of music from well known recording artists to local musicians looking for the big break. All of this in the funkiest club you will likely find in all of Canada.
The Duncan Garage Showroom didn’t quite make CBC Radios latest “top ten music clubs” list but came close in the top twenty I believe. Longevity John, the clubs passionate owner should be proud and everyone in the Cowichan [...]
The Islands Folk Festival is taking place at Providence Farm near Duncan in the Cowichan Valley on July 24th – 26th, 2009. Organized by the Cowichan Folk Guild, this 25th anniversary festival should be the best one yet. I have gone to the past three and it really doesn’t get much better.
