2009 turned out to be a busy year for us at Cowichan Valley Photos. I was very fortunate to photograph many different events and festivals, much of the natural beauty of the area and it seems almost anything else that happened locally. The highlight of 2009 was the release of the new book The Cowichan – Duncan, Chemainus, Ladysmith and Region in late October and the book signings and interviews that go along with these projects. A hard year to top but a good challenge is needed!

2010 looks to be filled with adventure as
Continue reading 2010 and Cowichan Valley Photography Workshops

I would like to thank all of those that had the opportunity to come to the book launch of The Cowichan: Duncan, Chemainus, Ladysmith and Region. Georgina and I had a wonderful time, Volume 1 did an excellent job of book selling and handling the crowds and Fatima at Bistro 161 and her staff put on an amazing spread of wonderful local food. Nothing better than Chanterelle Mushroom shooters and pizza made with Hilary’s cheese! The local wines were quite flavourful as well.

For those that were unable to attend thanks for the emails and blog comments. You missed a good
Continue reading The Cowichan – Photo Presentation

There is life over the Malahat.

It’s chronicled in the photos and stories gracing The Cowichan, a coffee-table book by writer Georgina Montgomery and lensman Kevin Oke.

The two locals launch their 143-page work Thursday at Duncan’s Bistro 161 where valley wines will be showcased.

As residents of the Cowichan Valley, our day-to-day lives often leave us with a jaded view of our surroundings. Oh, the ugly highway corridor, ugh, that boxy new development.

But every so often we’re reminded of just why living in the Cowichan is so special and why our gazes deserve sharpening.

Summer is over and I am spending my time working through approximately 30,000 photos of the Cowichan Region that I shot in the past 4 or 5 months. The more I see of this beautiful area the more impressed I am with what the Cowichan has to offer and I think that many will agree. I have always mentioned to people that actually doing the photography is the easy part, putting the computer time in to edit and label the images is another story. It does
Continue reading Cowichan Valley Photos – Large gallery update and news

The Cowichan Valley book is finally finished and off to the printers. This is always an exciting moment; no more running around trying to fill in last minute photos and agonizing over images that have already been selected. The official description of the Cowichan Valley book is below.

The Cowichan Region is the large area that lies between the cities of Victoria and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, reaching from the protected eastern shores of the island nearly all the way west to the Pacific Ocean. Its cornucopia-like shape is fitting for a place
Continue reading The Cowichan – Duncan, Chemainus, Ladysmith and Region
