The winter brings Trumpeter Swans by the hundreds to the valley. While driving around you see these beautiful birds in the fields and lakes of the area.

Alpacas are a popular farm animal in the area. This young fellow lives at a very picturesque farm on Koksilah Road south of Duncan.

More on the Cowichan sweaters later.

These water buffalo live at Fairburn Farm, lovingly cared for by Darrel and Anthea Archer. Canada’s first herd of water buffalo, these animals (and the Archers) are responsible for production of milk, cheeses and yoghurt. It’s all very cool and the buffalo are like giant affectionate cats. Other animals were photographed as well, take a look.

What a spectacle. This is the fourth lunar eclipse that I have photographed in the past while and I’m always awestruck by the appearance. More photos to come some day.
