It was pouring rain last Saturday noon when the Cowichan Valley Photos duo pulled into the parking lot of Dermod & Dudley’s Irish Pub & Grill in Lake Cowichan.   A wonderful sight, that pub, for two bedraggled and hungry sight-seers.  Our pretty, friendly waitress seated us by the window from where — even on such a dreary day – the view of Cowichan Lake and surrounding hills was spectacular.   We both opted for the special, a halibut burger, Kevin choosing regular fries (rather than either soup or a salad) and Cherie the yam fries with chipotle mayo (Yum!).  No ordinary halibut burger, this.  Served on a cheese Kaiser, with tomatoes, lettuce and red onion, the halibut was fresh and flakey and filled the bun to overflowing.    It was the best we’d ever had.

Although this was our first visit to Dermod & Dudley’s, it will not be our last.  The menu offered many interesting appies and mains in addition to a vast array of burgers and well as daily specials.  On Wednesday night, for instance, you can have 2 out of 3 pasta choices and then there is the Chicken Marsala night and then….  Next time, Kevin, who likes his food hot, wants to try the Jalapeno Corn Soup (7 on a heat scale of 10, we were told.)  Oh, and being an Irish pub, there were many beer choices, too, including Kevin’s favourite, Guinness.
