Eat, drink and be merry! A grand thought, that and just what is in store at the fifth annual Cowichan Wine & Culinary Festival. The festival launches its celebration of the food and wine – and beer and cider — of this fertile region with an evening of fabulous food, wine and music in the Satellite Bar & Grille at Arbutus Ridge Gulf Club on Friday, September 18th where the wines of Alderlea Vineyards will be featured — a gastronomic hint of what is to come.

No ordinary wine festival, this. In addition to the featured eateries: Best Western Cowichan Valley Inn, Masthead Restaurant and Steeples Bar & Grill, there are, of course, this being the Cowichan Wine & Culinary Festival, the wineries: Averill Creek, Cherry Point, Godfrey Brownell, Rocky Creek and Zanatta. And for the best cider you have ever tasted, Merridale Cidery. But that’s not all! If you have ever wondered at the how of wine glass making, a visit to GBS Glass Blowing Studio where they make exquisite wine glasses. What is wine without cheese? Hilary’s Cheese Farm features, you got it, cheese, scrumptious cheese.

To see food production at its best, Organic Fair Inc. and TLC Keating Farm Estate are a must see. Chocolate, ice cream, honey, fruit, veggies, bread – all are available for tasting. O.U.R. Ecovillage will host a series of seminars on both days including one on Food as Medicine.

But that’s not all: there will be food and entertainment at most of the venues and good old fashioned country hayrides at TLC Keating Farm Estate. What a weekend this will be! We at Cowichan Valley Photos will be dieting a week before and a week after this spectacular event.
