It’s almost Fall again and the Cowichan Folk Guild is gearing up for another great season of music and food. The first Friday of every month between September and June, at the Providence Farm Chapel in Duncan, British Columbia, the Cowichan Folk Guild offers a gourmet dinner and an evening of music for a mere pittance, usually in the $15.00-$20.00 range. Members’s price is discounted by $5.00 and at an annual individual fee of $30.00 or family membership of $40.00, you can’t go wrong. (The membership gets you a lower Islands Folk Festival price, too.)
The first concert, on September 11th, features Kat Danser, dubbed the Queen of the Swamp Blues. Edmonton based, Kat Danser has played at many of the major folk festivals in Canada thrilling audiences with her feisty, bawdy lyrics and throaty vocals and the soulful sound of her Weiseenborn lap slide guitar. The price for the Cajun Dinner which is at 6:30 P.M. is an astonishing low price of $10.00 for Cowichan Folk Guild members and $15.00 for non-members. The concert which starts an hour later is $10.00 for members and $15.00 for non-members. (And, hey, if you are a family of two, you would already have paid for half your membership at just one concert/dinner.)
