Maple Bay Marina

The Maple Bay Marina Wooden Boat Celebration was this week and while I spent time at the docks with friends I didn’t really shoot many photographs. Perhaps that’s because I already have thousands of photographs of boats but the Cowichan weather was on and off, not abnormal for this time of year. Still, lots of great boats, good food and entertaining boat owners. I’ll be back again next year with my refurbished wooden boat in tow.

Maple Bay Wooden Boat Celebration

The 15th Annual Maple Bay Wooden Boat Celebration is this weekend and many of the boats arrived yesterday afternoon. The event celebrates the spirit of wooden boats and the people that lovingly keep them running, build them and restore them. This event is worth visiting if you have an interest in unique boats, many from another era.

We are off to enjoy the festival and of course do photography so I’ll update this evening but here are a few teasers of boats from last night.

Maple Bay Wooden Boat Festival 2010

15th Annual Wooden Boat Celebration on May 22& 23, 2010.

It’s that time of year again. Maple Bay Marina is hosting the 15th Annual Wooden Boat Celebration on May 22& 23, 2010. As always there will be many wooden boats for viewing, a few for sale (I bought one of the boats last year…) lots of stuff for the kids and in general a good time for everyone.

If you enjoy wooden boats this is one of the better celebrations with “real” boats that actually get used. I get a little disappointed with some festivals where the boats are looked

SS Master at the Maple Bay Marina Wooden Boat Festival, Vancouver Island, British Columbia

The 14th Annual Maple Bay Wooden Boat Festival will be held at Maple Bay Marina on May 15th through 17th, 2009. This is one of the earlier boat festivals that we get to enjoy on Vancouver Island during the year. Typically over 75 boats of all sizes participate.

Past years have seen some old classics arrive such as the SS Master built in 1922, the only remaining wooden hulled steam tug in North America and Glendevon, a 1944 ex Canadian Navy tug that has been lovingly restored.  Numerous

Aerial Photographs of Maple Bay, British Columbia

Maple Bay is a picturesque town from the air. The quaint seaside town is quite small and while not as funky as Cowichan Bay still has its charm. The walk along the beach is very pleasant and for boat lovers there is always something to see. The natural harbour is well protected and a favourite for boaters of all types. Check out the marinas at the end of the harbour where powerboats and sailboats share dock space with some interesting float homes. You may have a chance to fly into the Maple Bay Marina
